Need to Rehome Your Pet? ARC's goal is to get animals out of our local shelters that might otherwise face euthanization. Due to our limited foster homes and this goal, we are not accepting owner surrenders at this time. If you need to rehome your pet, we recommend trying some of the following solutions: 1. Contact the Humane Society of Bay County. Although they are often full, they do have a waiting list. You can reach them by calling 850-763-3923 or by going to their website: adoptme.org. 2. Try contacting Paws & Claws, a completely foster based rescue like us. You can reach them by calling 850-234-6284 or by going to their website: http://adopt.multiply.com. 3. Go to Petfinder.com and do a search for Florida rescues and shelters. You can do this by clicking on "Shelters", located on the front page. Select FL for your location and a listing of all the shelters and rescues registered with Petfinder will come up. Don't hestitate to call rescues that are further away. There is an amazing pet transportation line in place that many rescues are involved with and most of the time, pets are easily transported from one location to another. If you find a rescue to take your pet and they need help transporting him/her, please feel free to give them our contact information. We are more than happy to help out with transportation when we are able! 4. Do a web search for the breed of your critter. There are many, many breed specific groups out there (cats too)! 5. Put ads in the local papers, including the local free papers. Many, many people look at these papers and the perfect home may be out there. However, please do not list your animal as "Free to Good Home". This sometimes ends in a nightmare for the animal. Always ask for some kind of adoption fee. Also, ask for a vet reference and call the vet to make sure that they take good care of their animals. Finally, arrange to go to the home of the people interested in adopting your pet. This accomplishes many things, including making sure that they really live where they say they live, meeting any current animals they have to see what kind of shape they are in, and ensuring that any special needs your pet might have are met (such as a tall fence for fence climbers). 6. Email us a picture and a detailed description of your pet and include your contact information. Please put "Community Adoptable" in the subject line and we will gladly post this information on our site. We'll also connect people to you that contact us through the web and on the phone that might be able to provide a home for your pet. Please note, that if we do not receive an update from you, the animal will stay on the site for 30 days. If you need to rehome your pet due to training/behavior issues, please call us or a trainer/behaviorist first! Many training and behavior issues are easily worked through. Although we are not professional trainers, we do have a lot of pratical training experience.
